Skills Session 1: Construction & Carpentry (April 20 & 21, 2024)

Learn how to use carpentry tools and work with wood to create infrastructure and beautification. During this weekend, participants will learn best practices using hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, saws, sanders, stains & paints, and more. We’ll work on projects such as worm bins, benches, garden structures with decks, walls and doors. This one-weekend course is part

Skills Session 3: Forestry, Fire Mimicry, & Wood Heat (June 15 & 16, 2024)

During this weekend, participants will learn chainsaw use and maintenance, forest stewardship through fire mimicry, wood splitting/stacking, creating cob+plaster for earthen ovens and rocket mass heaters, fire-making and efficiency for home heating, and hearth cooking. We’ll build things such as cob ovens, rocket mass heaters, and firewood storage. This one-weekend course is part of a six-weekend course series: Permaculture Skills.

Skills Session 2: Energy – Electrical, solar, biogas (May 18 & 19, 2024)

Learn how to assess energy needs and appropriate sources. Participants will learn to run electrical wiring for simple projects, how to hook up a solar panel, best practices for biogas waste-to-energy, and bicycle maintenance. We’ll work on projects such as building a solar shower, building a small off-grid solar setup, and building a biogas reactor. This one-weekend course is part

Herbalism Session 1: Basics (April 13-14, 2024)

Explore the basics of herbalism: the how, what and why we use herbs. Explore the language of plants, learn how to engage with plants and become familiar with botanical vocabulary. Study herbal actions, constitution basics, and herbal dosage. Gain proficiency in the art of tea making and blending. Learn about infusions, sun teas, decoctions, and more. Learn about ethical wildcrafting.

Herbalism Session 6: The Integumentary System & Topical Applications (September 14-15, 2024)

Discover the supplies needed for making herbal preparations. Make herbal body oils, salves, lotions & poultices. Explore the basics of oxymel, tincture, and glycerine making. Learn about herbal first aid and the tools you need to make your own first aid kit that’s tailored to your lifestyle. This one-weekend course is part of a six-weekend course series: Herbalism & Medicine-Making.

Herbalism Session 3: Nervous System & Botany (June 8-9, 2024)

Gain understanding of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and the benefits that a well regulated nervous system can provide. Learn about adaptogens, Qi tonics, and Nervines. Learn to identify plant families, their scientific names, and cultural history of plants. Understand the reproductive parts of plants, and how plants photosynthesize and communicate across landscapes. Explore the basics of plant constituents.
